Men’s walking socks: every model sold in the UK, with large sizes

135 walking and hiking socks from the makers’ UK shops fit men: men’s models, and unisex socks whose charts print men’s sizes. For big feet, a chart’s last size matters more than the label.

Large sizes, chart by chart

Darn Tough’s men’s and unisex chart runs to XXL, UK 15 to 16, and Smartwool’s unisex chart to XXL, UK 14 to 16.5. Falke’s men’s sizes end at 49–50 (UK 13 to 14), Sealskinz’s at XL (UK 12 to 14), Icebreaker’s men’s Hike chart at XL (UK 12 to 13.5) and Point6’s at XL (UK 11 to 13.5); Bridgedale’s XL starts at UK 12. A size in the chart does not mean every model is made in it, so check the exact model in the size finder.

Cuff heights

Darn Tough’s men’s micro crews average 21.6 cm (8.5 in) from heel to cuff and its men’s boot socks 27.9 cm (11 in). Falke, Smartwool, Icebreaker and Bridgedale name their heights (calf, crew, boot) without a measurement. Whatever the name, the cuff should stand above the collar of your boots: the sock height guide shows how the makers’ heights compare.

Merino, wool or synthetic

Most men’s socks here carry merino: Darn Tough’s, Smartwool’s, Icebreaker’s and Bridgedale’s. Falke’s TK socks mix polypropylene, acrylic and wool, or use virgin wool, and its Cool models use lyocell. Sealskinz’s waterproof socks are a membrane between two knits. Each sock’s page and row show its whole blend.

Padding for your boots

Full or extra padding fills a roomy boot and suits cold days; a light sock leaves room in a close-fitting boot or a trail shoe. The makers’ padding words are their own, not one scale: the cushioning guide decodes them brand by brand.
